Quake 2 Remastered Rated for Release Ahead of QuakeCon 2023

Bethesda has been quietly working on an enhanced version of Quake 2 for modern gaming platforms.

As Gematsu reports, we only know about the remaster because the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea recently rated "Quake 2 Remastered" for release on PC.

The news should come as little surprise to fans of the series because Bethesda released an enhanced version of Quake back in August 2021 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The updated version added new gameplay, widescreen support, a 4K resolution option, and many of the graphical features we expect in games released today.

In October that same year, a next-gen upgrade was released which allowed the game to be played on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, but also added support for 120 fps.

The Quake 2 remaster is likely to offer a similar set of feature updates, although I'd be surprised if Bethesda held back the PS5 and Xbox Series versions this time. As the Quake enhancements were officially revealed in August, we can safely assume Bethesda will do the same for Quake 2 and make the announcement at QuakeCon 2023 which starts on Aug. 10.

We've already seen how good Quake 2 can look because Nvidia re-engineered the classic first-person shooter four years ago using ray-traced visuals. Hopefully at QuakeCon 2023 Bethesda demonstrates an ever better looking version of the game running on a GeForce RTX 4090 or Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card.
