Five Nights at Freddy's Movie Plot Explained, How it Ties to the Games

The Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNaF) took the world by storm when the first game was released in 2014. It gained tons of popularity through Let’s Plays on YouTube and became a favorite for many horror fans.

Scott Cawthon’s jump-scare-filled game about killer animatronics arrives in theaters on Oct. 27. It has an amazing cast, including Scream’s Matthew Lillard and The Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson.

People are curious about which FNaF game the movie is based on, and we’ve got the answer!

Is The Five Nights at Freddy's Movie Based on the First Game?

In 2018, Scott Cawthon stated the FNaF movie focuses on the setting and events from the first game.

Mike Schmidt is hired as a security guard to watch over Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a run-down entertainment restaurant for kids. The security guard soon discovers the establishment isn’t as family-friendly as advertised. He must survive five nights at the restaurant while the possessed animatronic mascots threaten to take his soul.

Although the movie is based on the first FNaF game, it adds a twist. The movie trailer shows Mike’s daughter, Abby, joining the security guard at the haunted restaurant. The little girl is in danger of becoming an animatronic robot, and Mike must protect her.
