Activision Blizzard has elected Substack Vice President of Communications Lulu Cheng Meservey to its board of directors, and nominated a senior executive at Bacardi Limited for election.

Meservey joined the board Saturday, and will serve on the company's Workplace Responsibility Committee. She'll stand for re-election to the board at Activision Blizzard's 2022 Annual Meeting.

Kerry Carr, who is Senior Vice President of Global Performance Management, Revenue Growth Management and Shared Services at Bacardi Limited, has also been nominated to the board. Should she win election, she'll serve on the Audit Committee.

Last month, Axios reported that Activision Blizzard was in violation of a 2019 California law that requires all companies with a board of more than six members to include at least three women among those members. The company had until the end of 2021 to add a third woman to its 10-person board, and failed to do so.

At the time, Activision Blizzard blamed the upcoming merger with Microsoft.

"Since the company's current directors would cease to continue to serve on our Board of Directors upon consummation of our proposed transaction with Microsoft, we were unable to conclude the [hiring] process in 2021," Activision Blizzard told Axios. "We will be continuing our efforts to appoint a new female director."

It's unclear if Activision Blizzard was hit with the $100,000 fine such a violation should have incurred.

"The addition of Lulu as a director and Kerry as a director nominee is a continuation of our Board refreshment process and underscores our commitment to broadening the skills, experiences, and diverse backgrounds of our directors," said Activision Blizzard Lead Independent Director Robert Morgado.

While Meservey and Carr join the board, members Hendrik J. Hartong III and Casey Wasserman have chosen not to stand for re-election at the 2022 Annual Meeting, and will exit the board accordingly.
