3 Original Modern Warfare 2 Maps We Want in MW2 2022

With Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 reboot sequel scheduled for release later this year, it's no surprise that fans of the Call of Duty series have already turned their attention toward leaks and rumors for the new entry.

From the rumored "DMZ" game mode, to promising multiplayer gameplay and various design choices, MW2 2022 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting COD titles in recent memory. As such, here's a breakdown of the top three OG Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps we'd like to see make their returns to glory this fall.

Before we get into the list, it's important to note that according to prominent gaming insider Tom Henderson's recent report for eXputer, the following four fan-favorite maps from the original 2009 MW2 are expected to not only return for the new core title, but also for the Warzone 2 map itself:

  • Highrise
  • Quarry
  • Terminal
  • Afghan

As such, assuming these four maps are already in the works, here are the three we'd like to see confirmed as well.

3. Rust

Although it was just brought back with Modern Warfare (2019), you kind of have to bring back Rust in the new MW2. Perhaps the most iconic 1v1 map of all-time in the first-person genre, Rust is the backdrop of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360's "golden days." While maybe not the best setting for actual competitive games, Rust is easily one of the all-time most beloved maps in Call of Duty history.

2. Estate

One of the most unique Call of Duty maps of all-time, Estate has been MIA since the original MW2 came out in 2009. This map had insane verticality at play with good open spaces and a large cabin that provided for intense combat.

1. Invasion

Invasion needs to come back in MW2 2022. Infinity Ward teased the map in MW 2019 when fans went outside another map to find the layout of Invasion hidden in the background. Bring back one of the best Capture the Flag maps alongside Capture the Flag as a mode.
