The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Upgrade Delayed Again

It looks like fans wanting to play a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version of The Witcher 3 will have to wait a little bit longer.

Yesterday, CD Projekt Red announced that they would be delaying the release of the next-gen versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Originally, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions were scheduled for a Q2 release, though a definitive release date was never announced.

The announcement, posted via The Witcher official Twitter page, revealed that CD Projekt Red had decided to keep the development of the next-gen version in-house. Previously, the upgraded version was set to be developed by an external studio - Saber Interactive.

"We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," the post read. "We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice."

"We'll update you as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding."

The Witcher 3, first released back in 2015, is set to receive a free next-gen upgrade that will “visually and technically” enhance the game. The upgrade will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The next-gen version has already been delayed once, having originally been planned for a 2021 release. It seems that CD Projekt Red isn't ready to lock a new release window in place just yet, either. Until further information is offered up by the studio, fans will have to continue to wait patiently for the upgrade's release.

Despite the delay, CD Projekt Red are showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to The Witcher, having previously announced that a new saga was in development using Unreal Engine 5.
