Sierra, one of Team Rocket's bosses in Pokémon GO, is back with a new team for the month of April and we've compiled a guide to help you along beating her, bringing you one step closer to fighting Giovanni.

Sierra is the Rocket leader associated with Spark and Team Instinct, and is known to carry very strong Pokémon with her. While her team, like the other leaders, will rotate every couple of months, one thing remains consistent with it; she can be very tough to beat if not encountered with a team of strong Pokémon.

Here are each of the Pokémon you can expect Sierra to possibly bring to the fight, along with some strategies to counter each Pokémon's phase.

While Sierra's first Pokémon is always going to be a Murkrow, in the two subsequent phases, the Pokémon she will bring will vary. Players must be willing to bring Pokémon that can be versatile enough to handle any of these strong Pokémon.

First Pokémon: Shadow Murkrow

Murkrow is a Dark- and Flying-type Pokémon who can definitely be tricky to deal with if players don't bring a Pokémon that addresses its weaknesses. That being said, here are three recommendations to bring to defeat this foe:

  • Tyranitar (Rock- and Dark-type) - Smack Down and Stone Edge
  • Weavile (Dark- and Ice-type) - Ice Shard and Avalanche
  • Electivire (Electric-type) - Thunder Shock and Wild Charge

Second Pokémon: Shadow Staraptor, Steelix or Swampert

Staraptor is a strong Normal- and Flying-type, it, similarly to Murkrow, will be prone to Rock-type moves. Steelix is a Ground- and Steel-type Pokémon, so it can be defeated using Water-, Fire- or Ground-type moves even. Swampert is a Water- and Ground-type, and has a quadruple weakness to Grass-type moves. Here is one Pokémon to possibly take for each of these Pokémon.

  • Staraptor: Abomasnow (Ice- and Grass-type) - Powder Snow and Energy Ball
  • Steelix: Rhyperior (Rock- and Ground-type) - Mud Slap and Surf
  • Swampert: Torterra (Grass- and Ground-type) - Razor Leaf and Frenzy Plant

Third Pokémon: Shadow Charizard, Dragonite or Houndoom

This phase of fighting Sierra is sure to bring the most grief; Charizard is a Fire- and Flying-type, so your best bet is to bring a Rock-type Pokémon, Dragonite is a Dragon- and Flying-type, so bringing an Ice-type is sure to help a lot dealing with it and finally, Houndoom is a Fire- and Dark-type, so having a Ground-type Pokémon can definitely help a lot.

  • Charizard: Omastar (Water- and Rock-type) - Rock Throw and Rock Slide
  • Dragonite: Gardevoir (Psychic- and Fairy-type) - Confusion and Dazzling Gleam
  • Houndoom: Tyranitar (Rock- and Dark-type) - Smack Down and Stone Edge

Defeating Sierra will yield 1,000 Stardust and two item bundles to players who can successfully eradicate her.
