Recent Overwatch 2 AMA Leads to Fan Concern Over MMR

In a recent Reddit AMA, the Overwatch 2 team sat down to answer some of the burning questions ahead of the game's Oct. 4 release date.

One of the questions the devs answered, led to some concern from the Overwatch community. The topic of the question regarded "matchmaking rating," or MMR, and if players ranked progress will reset at the beginning of Overwatch 2.

Recently games such as Apex Legends had an MMR reset which has led to many issues for competitive gameplay. Gold players are getting matched with Predator players, which has led to mass chaos as high-skill players are absolutely dominating their competition.

Because of these issues, it has led Overwatch players to debate if they actually want an MMR reset once the highly anticipated sequel comes out officially.

The devs did weigh in on the matter and said that "We won't be performing a complete MMR reset for Overwatch 2, but we do plan on lowering the MMR of accounts who haven't played in a while as part of a new "decay" system. A complete reset would mean that games would be completely imbalanced for weeks or longer across the entire service, and we don't think that will be a great experience for everyone."

Their answer will hopefully stoke the fears of players who were worried that Overwatch 2 would be following in the footsteps of Apex Legends. Overwatch 2 will have a soft MMR reset, but it looks like it will only majorly affect players who are inactive play less than others.

With Blizzard known to take their time when crafting games, it looks like the devs address the concerns of fans, and Overwatch 2 seems to be in good hands.
