A new Diglett variation has been revealed for the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet — Wiglett.

A new spin on the Gen 1's Diglett is being rolled out in November's Pokemon release. The Paldean Wiglett is technically a new species, but appears to also be a region-specific version of Diglett. Described as a Garden Eel Pokemon, Wiglett's appearance is much longer than that of Diglett with a general white color. Wiglett is also listed as a Water-type Pokemon.

Yesterday, Nintendo posted a video introducing the new Pokemon joining the collection in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. In it, Wiglett can be seen emerging from a hole in the sand just where the waves break against the shore. Wiglett is then shown interacting with its Ground-type counterpart, only for two more Wigletts to show up alongside. Wiglett's Water-type moves are then shown in battle with Rock-type Bonsly.

An official description on the Pokemon website describes the creature, saying, "Wiglett pokes a part of its body out of the sand to feed in the ocean. It’s still unclear what the rest of its body hidden in the sand is like or how long it might be."

"Boasting an exceptional sense of smell, Wiglett is able to pick up scents from over 60 feet away. It has a skittish disposition and is constantly cautious of its surroundings. When it notices the scent of other Pokémon, Wiglett burrows into the sand to conceal itself."

It's currently unclear whether Wiglett will have an evolution, like Diglett has for Dugtrio. Nintendo may be keeping the evolutions as a surprise for players when Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launches on Nov. 18, 2022.
