Overwatch Lunar New Year's Event is around the corner which starts in February, but not much is known so far.
If it follows the same pattern as last year, the event will launch on the first Thursday following the New Year. That should land on Feb. 7. Last year was the Year of the Dog.
Overwatch Lunar New Year's Event
Overwatch has yet to reveal anything for the new event, but Jeff Kaplan did state that the Overwatch Dev team was focusing more on hero balance and less on events.
That being said, Jeff Kaplan said the team still plans to do the Seasonal Events coming up, but won't focus on new game modes. They will instead focus on existing game modes and just add new skins and such.
Jeff Kaplan explained the process:
"We’re also in a bit of a “head’s down” mode trying to get a lot of work done. we also had a few people traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday (we’re based in the US) and took advantage of the slow week to allow developers to work on whatever they wanted. the end result was pretty cool. we explored new game modes, new features, and new engine tech. it was all really rough but some of the prototypes will actually turn into features someday. I guess, mostly, we don’t have a big newsworthy thing to announce or talk about right now so we’re more focused on “getting stuff done” rather than anything else."
So fully expect Lunar New Year's Event to happen in February with new skins. 2019 will be Year of the Pig, so Roadhog will probably be the main focus of the event.
