NYT Crossword Clue

The New York Times included a crossword clue "Line of Pokémon" in the puzzle's 17 across clue this morning. The answer, for fans in the United States, is perhaps the most iconic line from the entire franchise, "Gotta Catch 'Em All." For the puzzle of course, it will read as "gottacatchemall."

The phrase itself was part of the original English language Pokémon theme song "Pokémon Theme," which played in that first episode and was an immediate smash hit. The original "Pokémon Theme," written by John Loeffler and John Siegler, with Jason Paige delivering the iconic vocals, is the most used dub opening for the anime, across all its different iterations. Despite its immediate and enduring success, the song itself is not without controversy. Paige hired a lawyer to file legal proceedings against other companies who used his voice from the song, before ultimately receiving a settlement that was arguably pennies in comparison to the value he had helped add to the Pokémon franchise.

Despite that, Paige still seems to have a lot of love for the franchise and his role in some of its most iconic moments, as he has his own Youtube channel where he is reasonably active uploading, including Pokémon card opening videos and an unofficial "Detective Pikachu" movie theme song from 2019.
