Call of Duty Major 3 Breaks Viewership Record

In its fourth year, the Call of Duty League just broke its viewership record during Major 3.

For the first time since franchising, the CDL made the move from YouTube to Twitch to broadcast its matches. The switch not only appeals to a broader group of viewers, but also inspired the Watch Party Program. Now, popular content creators and retired professionals can co-stream the CDL and react in live time to all the action.

Along with the move to Twitch, OpTic Texas' improbable Losers Bracket run in front of their home crowd garnered an unprecedented viewership during Major 3. After losing 3-0 to Boston Breach in Winners Round 1, OpTic Texas defeated London Royal Ravens, Florida Mutineers, Seattle Surge, Boston Breach, and Atlanta FaZe to make it to Grand Finals.

Their championship hopes faded once they met Toronto Ultra in the Best of Seven series. Similar to the Los Angeles Thieves' run at Major 2, OpTic Texas came up just short in Grand Finals.

Although the Green Wall suffered defeat, Major 3 was a huge success for the CDL. According to data from Esports Charts, viewership peaked on Championship Sunday at over 335,000 concurrent viewers.

With over 170,000 viewers in Seth "Scump" Abner's stream during OpTic's run, the numbers for the CDL were bound to reach new heights. Along with the tens of thousands watching along with The Flank, as well as on the official Call of Duty Broadcast, the previous viewership record, set during 2020 Champs, was easily broken.

CDL Major 4 Qualifiers begin on Mar. 31.
