A pair of images said to be artwork from the next Assassin's Creed have appeared online, reinforcing reporting that the game will be titled Assassin's Creed Mirage.

One of the two illustrations shows an Assassin poised for battle in front of a towering doorway, which frames an equally imposing silhouetted figure raising a curved blade. The second image uses that same illustration, but overlays text reading "A Ubisoft Original," "Assassin's Creed Mirage," and "The Forty Thieves Quest."

The two images have now widely circulated on social media, but they may have been first posted by Twitter user @ScriptLeaksR6. That user has a history of posting Rainbow 6 leaks, and that game is also a Ubisoft property, making it plausible these leaks are legitimate. The images themselves are said to come from the Ubisoft Store itself. Reposts of the images have been removed from Twitter, leaving behind a message that the images in question have been removed "in response to a report from the copyright holder," further reinforcing the images' legitimacy.

The Forty Thieves Quest could be DLC for the upcoming game, or perhaps a pre-order exclusive quest. It would likely draw from the Arabic folktale Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.

Reporting published earlier this week indicated Assassin's Creed Mirage would be the title for the highly anticipated — but still technically unannounced — game. It was previously reported the game was known by the codename Rift, and that it would follow the Assassin Basim on an adventure in Baghdad. It's expected to see release in spring 2023, and will likely be officially unveiled at a Ubisoft broadcast scheduled for September.
