3 Best Legends to Pair With Newcastle in Apex Legends

We're still less than a week into Apex Legends Season 13: Saviors, which means the jury's still out on how best to utilize the newest Legend in the game, Newcastle.

Newcastle is a Defensive-class character whose kit revolves around protecting allies from gunfire and reviving teammates in safe positions. As such, while the Heroic Defender should be a great fit for just about any team comp, here's a breakdown of the top three best Legends players should look to pair with him in Apex Legends Season 13: Saviors.

3. Rampart

Right off the bat, perhaps the Legend that first comes to mind when thinking of utility to pair with Newcastle is Rampart. Considering the Amped Modder also just received a buff, it's definitely worth a shot to pair the two as they both have abilities that revolve around building walls to create cover in combat. Although it may seem redundant to use Rampart's Amped Cover with Newcastle's Castle Wall, it's worth mentioning that alone, Newcastle's ult acts more like a brief fight resetter rather than a full-on safe haven like Gibraltar's Dome of Protection, as it's just not that sturdy in the current M600 Spitfire meta. Thus, adding Rampart's Amped Cover, as well as her Sheila minigun, could make for some big plays.

2. Valkyrie

Likely the least nonsense pick on this list, Valkyrie is kind of a no-brainer recommendation as she fits in with just about every Legend in the game right now. While pairing Valkyrie with a Gibby has been one of the best formulas in the game for quite some time since his dome shield can give her the cover she needs while taking off for her ult, this works two-fold with Newcastle. The Heroic Defender can use his Mobile Shield to protect the team while Valkyrie charges her Skyward Dive and, upon landing, can use his Castle Wall if needed to establish some space.

1. Gibraltar

Lastly, although Respawn Entertainment's dev team has been on record in saying that it wants to "tackle the shield meta" so it doesn't dominate too much, the fact of the matter is they've yet to actually make any changes. As such, maybe now is the time to embrace the double tank comp. Although the Fortified Perk got nerfed a bit, having two characters that simply take 15% less damage anywhere but the head is pretty annoying to deal with. Additionally, both can, of course, alternate their defensive abilities to keep the team on its feet as much as possible.
